Things Apple is Bigger Than

#15 Music

Even though Apple products have become an amazing vehicle for accessing music, the digital age has hit the recording industry hard as of late. This has severely dropped the total revenue for those that made music in 2011 into 2012. Meanwhile Apple keeps on soaring.

15: Music
Even though Apple products have become an amazing vehicle for accessing music, the digital age has hit the recording industry hard as of late. This has severely dropped the total revenue for those that made music in 2011 into 2012. Meanwhile Apple keeps on soaring.
14: Adult Films
We all know by now (and it's said ad nauseum by someone trying to make a point at parties) that the adult film industry is a multi-billion dollar-a-year machine. Which is true. But Apple is in the HUNDREDS of billions-a-year.
13: Roman Catholicism
By sheer numbers, and including only the United States, Apple beats the ancient Christian order by a landslide. Think about what place is more crowded? Your local parish, or your local Apple store? Yep. Even on a Sunday.
12: Colgate Toothpaste
Listen, we love to keep our teeth clean and refreshed, but we don't like it nearly as much as anything with an 'i' in front of it. Even if you combine Colgate's major competitors, they are still outshined by Apple.
11: Marriage
Let's put it this way: it's estimated that half of U.S. homes own an Apple product, and that married couples are no longer the statistical majority of society. Nuff said.
10: American Idol
Although still the biggest moneymaking franchise in television it can't hold a candle to the influence Apple has over this country, and in fact the world. Even if they called it 'Global Idol' it wouldn't stand a chance.
9: Pork
Well, at least when it comes to pork exports, the pig falls behind Apple. Especially when you compare it to Apple's exports, which are quite substantial. Never thought the day would come when bacon was inferior to anything.
8: Baseball
And so it is that the national pastime pales in comparison to the financial might of Apple. Not only that, it falls a distant second to football in just the sports market. Apple products could be described as a new national pastime.
7: Federal Express
The very misleadingly named global delivery company is actually a private corporation. Despite the fact that most of our bulk packages come via Fedex, it is still no match for the aged hippies-turned-financial kingpins over at Apple.
6: The United States Postal Service
This one time indispensable public service is now hemorrhaging money, a product of the digital age of information. An age that has been partly been rushed along by likes of Apple.
5: Nike
Yes, the Swoosh has taken a backseat to Apple when it comes to brands with iconic symbols. It's probably fair to guess that even Michael Jordan owns more in Apple products than he does in Nike.
4: Hollywood
It is estimated that movies made in Hollywood earned a paltry collective total of $12.5 billion last year. Paltry, of course, when you even compare it to only one or two Apple products at a time, such as the iPhone or iPad.
3: Sliced Bread
We can now say that, yes, Apple Inc. is bigger than sliced bread. With the financial troubles of Hostess brand, the overall revenue for Wonderbread has sunk lower than ever. Much lower than Apple's estimated $108 billion income for 2011.
2: Coca Cola
Soft drink vs. Software. In this one, Apple wins in a landslide, nearly doubling Coca-Cola's current yearly revenue. And by the way, Coca-Cola as a company owns many more entities than you probably think.
1: The Apple
Yes, Apple (the company) is now bigger than apple (the fruit). Proof? The fruit is now the fourth (!) item down the list when you Google the word 'apple.' The three links above it? Apple, Inc. Check it out for yourself.
