More
Update more than one time a day. This will keep people thinking about your Twitter because they will be able to see your updates most of the time when they go on Twitter.

Don’t overdo it. If you tweet about three times a day, you won’t run the risk of annoying your followers but you’ll have just enough tweets to get noticed.

Follow Back
If someone follows you, follow them back. Everyone wants to be a liked and some people only follow people in hopes that they will get a follow back. If they follow you and see you haven’t followed them back then they might unfollow you.

Regulate
Regulate your thoughts. It’s tempting, but Twitter is not a place to share every, little detail of your life. It’s not your brain so put the filters on before tweeting and ask yourself “do I really need to tweet this?” or “will people really care?”. Once you’ve taken a second to think it over, you’ll be able to save face and decipher which tweets are appropriate and which aren’t.

Deal
Every week or two, make an offer that will sound appealing to your followers. Something like “for the next hour, everyone that follows me will get a follow back” or “first 50 people to retweet this will get a retweet from me over the next week”. When people take you up on these deals, you need to uphold your end of the deal.

Respect
Follows may be represented by a number, but you need to remember that your followers are people with feelings. They deserve to be respected so don’t mistreat them and always remember to only share things that would be worth the time of your readers.

Watch Your Mouth
Yeah, the internet is kind of a free-for-all. We love that about this great place, but bare in mind that there are some people on the internet that don’t like seeing vulgar talk or bad language filling up their Twitter. Try to cut down on the swearing while tweeting (don’t do it at all if you can handle it) and don’t get into things that would be too graphic.

No Offense
It’s important to be careful about sharing your opinions on certain things. Be mindful of any statements that can come off as cruel, unnecessary or prejudice. The more followers you have, the more likely you are to offend people. Always ask yourself if your tweet would set a bad example for your 10-year-old sister. If so, you should probably re-think it.

Honesty
Don’t be a liar, especially not in such a public place. Don’t start rumors, make up things about yourself or imitate other people. These things will only alienate your followers and make everyone feel bad.

Follow Followers
Look for really popular Twitters and look through their follower lists. When you find people that seem like they might like your tweets, then follow them or tweet at them. You’ll probably end up with some new readers.

Retweet
Nothing is more exciting in the world of Twitter than a retweet. It makes people feel good to know that someone thought their words were good enough to share with others. Try re-tweeting people every now and then, they’re likely to start following you or even tweeting to you.

Make Friends
Start conversations with other users. Reply to their tweets sometimes and try to get a Twitter friendship going. Their followers will wonder who you are and why they are tweeting you and as a result, their followers will start following you.

Pictures
Connect your Twitter to your Instagram or use Twitpic to post photos of things you find interesting. Some people will follow you just because they really like the photos you share.

Hashtag
Hashtags are key in staying trendy and helping others find you through a topic you like to talk about. Use hashtags every few days and follow people that are talking about the same things. It’s a great way to connect.
