Fashion Trends We Hate

#15 Cowl Necks

This is a trend that can sort of go either way. A short cowl neck looks alright on some people but for the most part we think they look like gigantic bibs. They're especially confusing when a cowl neck is put on a sleeveless sweater. We get it that it's supposed to keep someone warm but wouldn't the fabric that was used on the neck be better used on sleeves?

15: Cowl Necks
This is a trend that can sort of go either way. A short cowl neck looks alright on some people but for the most part we think they look like gigantic bibs. They're especially confusing when a cowl neck is put on a sleeveless sweater. We get it that it's supposed to keep someone warm but wouldn't the fabric that was used on the neck be better used on sleeves?
14: Exposed Undergarments
This is a trend that has developed pretty recently even though it's been building for years. Women used to come up with more creative ways of turning bras (or shirts the size of bras) into shirts but lately the trend has been to just let it show right through the clothing. There's nothing wrong with letting a bra strap show here or there but the entire shirt shouldn't be see-through. We think that's really tacky no matter which celebrity tries to tell us it's chic and sophisticated.
13: Super High Heels
Heels are a big part of women's fashion. As some point, every woman puts on a pair of heels and there are many that prefer to wear them every day. We think that's great, what's not so great is the trend to wear super high heels. Last time we checked, those were supposed to be the shoes worn by "ladies of the evening", and not your boss at the office.
12: Tanktops As Shirts
We like tanktops, they're perfect for Summer days relaxing by the pool or hanging out with your friends but there is a difference between a good tank and an undershirt. We hate the trend of wearing tanktops as regular shirts. They make the guy look like he doesn't have it all together and can't be bothered to complete the simple task of getting dressed in the morning. It's even worse on women for reasons like our #14 most hated trend.
11: Harem Pants
This is one of those trends that we can't decide if we love or hate. Since it's taken us this long, we can only guess that we really don't like it. Perhaps it's all of the bunched up fabric, the unflattering cut, the fact that everyone tried to dress them up or maybe it's just the fact that Aladdin probably needs his pants back.
10: Ed Hardy
We're not sure if we'd call this a trend so much as it is one of the worst things we've ever seen. We have no idea why men want to wear shirts with nearly every kind of graphic on them. They have tigers, hearts, flowers, skulls, glitter and some other junk that just don't belong together, especially on one article of clothing.
9: Tights As Pants
We hate this trend! There is nothing stylish about trying to pass off tights, leggings or any other undergarment as pants. They are not stylish, they are unflattering and they don't hide anything. This might be a favorite of all of the perverts out there but for us, we'd rather enjoy the "subtle mystery" that comes from seeing a person wear real clothing! ...also, what's going on with those shoes?
8: Hobo Chic
We're all about staying warm in the Winter and it's great to layer clothing but we think this trend is a good example of what not to do. The trend has the word "hobo" in for a reason and we don't care if those are Chanel scarves and Gucci bags, it still makes you look like a homeless person.
7: Track Suits
The only time these are appropriate is when someone is running track. They look good on an athletic build and they are a great way to stay warm and comfortable during cold mornings of running. They do not look so good on everyone else and they are a great way to look frumpy and lazy during everyday activities that don't involve fitness.
6: Crocs
These are some of the ugliest shoes we have ever seen. We're not trying to trash on anyone that actually likes them but to us, they seem like a really bad (don't forget cheap and tacky) version of clog shoes. We will never understand how they became so popular. The only thing worse than looking at them is smelling them when the person wearing them decides not to wear socks!
5: Crop Tops
This is a trend that ran its course in previous decades and has started to come back around with a new generation. It's one of those styles that work on some builds but look horrible on others. What we don't like about them is the fact that the top is about the same length as (or shorter than) it is wide. It's like wearing a box on your upper half.
4: Pajamas As Clothing
This is a trend that began as a thing middle school students would do to be comfortable during classes. It caught on quickly but it stopped being a cool idea after it became popular. Most saw it as a juvenile, lazy way to get dressed so we find it surprising that this trend seems to have resurfaced in 2012 among "high fashion" celebrities, models and stylists. We don't care how you dress it up, we still hate it!
3: Drop Waist
Granted, those dresses look great on the models but that's just it, those are models. They are woman that have made it their life's work to look amazing in anything they wear. For the other 98% of woman in the world, this is one of those trends that can look really terrible so we have a love/hate relationship with this one.
2: Sporty Chic
This trend isn't so bad when worn in the right settings. If you're a huge baseball fan and want to go to a game in style then this is a great trend, but we've seen people try to pull this off on casual Fridays. It's just a little too relaxed to wear for anything but game day.
1: Art Deco Graphics
Sure, in the 1980's, art deco graphics made sense. They were edgy, versatile and completely unique but this trend has come back around for the Spring of 2012 and we kind of hate it.
