14: UC Berkley
Once infested with hippies, UC Berkley is now home to countless hipsters. In many cases, though, it's hard to tell the difference.
13: Earlham College
The privileged students at Earlham College like cheap beer (PBR) and expensive cigarettes (American Spirits, Gaulloise if possible). The skinny jeans! Oh, the skinny jeans!
12: University of Chicago
University of Chicago is home to brainy, disoriented hipsters who spend hours reading Derrida and fixing up old bikes.
11: Prescott College
Prescott has a surprisingly large number of hipsters, especially for a city in Arizona, which has such conservative politics. Still, there are a ton of rock-climbing, Pynchon-reading hipsters in Prescott.
10: Brown University
Famous hipsters who went to Brown include Will Oldham, Lisa Loeb, Todd Haynes, and Jeffrey Eugenides. Such a concentration of talent just spreads hipsterism like a virus.
9: Portland State University
All of those hipsters in Portland have to go to school somewhere. They're certainly not going to leave a land where the '90s never died.
8: University of Georgia
There are plenty of hipsters down South when you know where to look. University of Georgia puts you right next to the small city of Athens, where Of Montreal, REM, and many other hipster musicians formed.
7: Georgetown University
Hipsters at Georgetown University are a different breed. They seem a little preppier, but they have a solid background in irony that makes them undeniably cool in that hipster way.
6: Yale
Yale's history of stodgy academics haven't prevented hipsters from coming in droves. That's largely thanks to the school's terrific liberal arts program.
5: UCLA
The entertainment and art industries have attracted a ton of hipsters to L.A. For some reasons, those smart enough to get into a college seem to join UCLA.
4: Rhode Island School of Design
Let's put it this way, both Lightning Bolt and, gulp, the Talking Heads got together at RHSD. The school maintains a long tradition of ultra-hipness.
3: Emerson
Boston has a lot of hipsters. Most of them are flowing from Emerson. Emerson even has its own record label for lame indie rock groups that lean heavily towards disco.
2: Fashion Institute of Technology
It's no surprise that one of the top US fashion schools has a bunch of hipsters. The only difference is that these hipsters are blazing ironic paths of fashion for the future.
1: NYU
Students seem pretty normal when they enter New York University. By the time they graduate, they're a bunch of vegetarian, anti-fashionable hipsters.
