15: "Heavy Duty" Indeed
Reynolds Wrap installed a number of their over-sized boxes above roll-down gates in NYC to emphasize the product's strength and durability. It's a unique use of unconventional space.
14: Prime Stakes
We like this street advertising almost as much as we like HBO's "True Blood." Almost. We're pretty sure Bill and Eric would rip us apart even if we had that flimsy stake, though.
13: Don't Go in There!
As if "Shark Week" didn't get enough promotion already, National Geographic created this great—and kind of scary—shark bus to spread the word about their programming.
12: Lopsided
This hilarious promo for a fitness center really grabs your attention. In fact, we've all probably felt that heavy at one point or another—we're just glad we weren't invited to the casting calls.
11: Always
Despite being the world's most valuable brand, Coca-Cola still spends over $2 billion per year on advertising. This is a great example of using an unconventional space to really draw the target's eyes.
10: Must-Sea
This billboard for the disaster-flick "The Day After Tomorrow" is a fine example of an unconventional use of outdoor space. It also slightly reminds us of "The Planet of the Apes."
9: Emergency!
This clever marketing idea for the American Red Cross gives the illusion of an injured stranger at the bottom of the stairs. We have to admit: We would not know what to do. Help us, Red Cross!
8: Iron Grip
This promo for Gold's Gym takes advantage of an elevator's changing canvas and provides the optical illusion that the strongman is pulling the doors open. We're not thrilled about getting in that tight space with the sweaty muscleman, though.
7: Trash or Treasure?
It looks like an ordinary mess of garbage, BUT some very clever ad men created a fake box—complete with torn wrapping paper—for their holiday promotion of the Mini Cooper.
6: Spilt Paint
At first glance, you might think this huge promotion is for Coop's Paint, but that's not even a real company. The advertisement is really for Nationwide Insurance, with the tagline "Life comes at you fast."
5: Ouch.
This is a great billboard design from Tylenol. We've all had that headache. It's the headache that makes you take two (or three) times as many pills as directed.
4: That's Really Super!
The DDB China Group out of Shanghai created this monster-sized promotion. Although, we are slightly concerned about potential traffic accidents caused by drivers gazing at the ad.
3: Calgary Zoo
This ad for the Calgary Zoo is really a stretch of the imagination. Is there a better way to announce the birth of a giraffe than in this cute, original format?
2: Street Cleaner
This ad really makes us laugh. It also really gets the point across about Mr. Clean's unrivaled cleansing prowess. The white really popped on this rainy day, too.
1: Feed the Hungry
This ad for Feed SA, a non-profit partnership to cut poverty and hunger in Africa, is both shocking and sobering. It's a great example of advertising that makes you think not only about the company but about yourself, too.
