Once Upon A Time contains many allusions to the creator's previous series, Lost. For example, many items found in the Lost universe, such as Apollo candy bars, Oceanic Airlines, and MacCutcheon Whisky, can be seen in Once Upon a Time.

Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis came up with the idea for Once Upon a Time just before they joined the writing staff of Lost. They waited until that series was over to focus on this project.

The Enchanted Forest is probably one of several magical kingdoms in the world of Once Upon A Time. For example, we know that the rulers of The Enchanted Forest were once at war with the Ogres.

Storybrooke, Maine
Storybrooke, Maine, is a typical oceanside town, but it is trapped in time. The cars on the stree are from the 1980s and the comic books are from the same era. In contrast, modern conveniences such as the Internet and TV broadcasts are available. In several episodes, it's clear that the citizens are unable to leave the city limits.

The Feminist Side
Feminist media like Once Upon A Time because of its feminist twist on fairy tales. The Bitch blog wrote that she liked the show for "infusing a feminist sensibility" into the stories.

The pilot episode was watched by 13 million viewers and won a 4.0 rating in Teens and Adults 18–49. It was the season's highest-rated drama debut among Adults 18–49 and ABC's biggest debut in five years. The show's next three episodes each had more than 11 million viewers. The series has become the #1 non-sports program with viewers and young adults on Sunday nights.

Winning the Awards!
Once Upon a Time was nominated for a 2012 People's Choice Award for "Favorite New TV Drama." It was also nominated for "Best Genre Series" at the 2011 Satellite Awards. The program also received three nominations at the 2012 Visual Effects Society Awards. At the 38th Saturn Awards, the series received a nomination for Best Network Television Series and Parrilla was nominated for Best Supporting Actress on Television. The show received trophies for "Favorite New TV Drama" and "Favorite Villain" for Lana Parrilla on the TV Guide.

Naming Names
Names for many characters in Storybrooke are often coordinated with their fairy-tale counterpart. For example, Mary Margaret Blanchard (Snow White). Blanchard derives from the French word "blanc" or "blanche" for white.

The Jefferson Airplane / Grace Slick Connection
Jefferson (The Mad Hatter): The group Jefferson Airplane has a song called "White Rabbit" that uses imagery from the "Alice in Wonderland" tales Paige (Grace) In the real world the Hatter's daughter is named Paige but in the other her name is Grace. Grace Slick was a member of Jefferson Airplane and writer of "White Rabbit".

Symbolism of Snow White's Glass Coffin
The glass coffin can be a symbol of a caterpillar in its cocoon before it becomes a butterfly. The glass coffin is also a symbol of reincarnation. Snow White is brought back to life by a kiss from her prince. Her "death" is just resting after her death, awaiting rebirth. The fact that Snow White is laid to rest in a coffin of glass show she is still an object of affection for the dwarfs and the prince.

The Round Table
The image of the Round Table is included in the first episode of the season. In that episode a group of thirteen, including Prince Charming, are sitting around a round table debating the best way to triumph over the evil queen and the curse she cast to destroy the kingdom. These are the knights of the round table in the series.

The Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk comic Henry is reading was published in 2009, three years out of date. Another comic, Kazar the Savage, is issue #1 and was published in 1981 making it even further out of date.

Ginnifer Goodwin plays Snow White and Mary Margaret. One of Ginnifer's nicknames is Gigi, which is also the name of the character she played in "He's Just Not That Into You." Her dream was to be a Walt Disney Princess, which is appropriate considering her role on "Once Upon a Time."
