Rum - Pirates of the Caribbean
Just rum. Pirates aren't big on mixed drinks. Just picture a martini glass on a pirate ship. That would last all of 3.6 seconds before slopping all over the place. So just rum. In bottles. And deny it all you want, but we know after that first movie came out there was more than one occasion when you flung open a liquor cabinet and hollered "Why is the rum gone!?"

Alright, alright, this sounds like a cop-out, but seriously, do the folks at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce ever stop drinking? (And can we get bars in every room of our office?) In our defense, Mad Men has increased the popularity of classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned, Vodka Gimlet, and Tom Collins.

Chianti - Silence of the Lambs
Ordinarily, we'd pair a chianti for with a pasta and red sauce dish, or maybe with a bruschetta appetizer. Hannibal Lector apparently thinks it goes well with fava beans and human liver.

Red Eye - Cocktail
Just so we're clear, this is a drink called Red Eye featured in the movie Cocktail, not a cocktail featured in the movie Red Eye. That'd be awkward.

Absinthe - Moulin Rouge
Ah yes. The green fairy. The muse of many a poor artist seeking refuge in the welcoming streets of Montmartre. It is quite lovely, we must say. But heads up, you can't get the real stuff in the US.

Pinot Noir and Merlot - Sideways
Sideways might not be as funny if you don't live in Northern California and know tons of wine snobs, but that doesn't matter when it comes to a good pinot noir. We feel kind of bad for merlot, though. There are plenty of perfectly decent merlots out there. There are probably better pinots, but still, perfectly decent merlots.

Singapore Sling - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
We understand if you're hesitant about a drink recommended by Hunter S. Thompson. And if we'd never had a Singapore Sling, we might agree with you. Give it a shot. Oh and don't yell "This is bat country!" in the middle of a bar. Bartenders tend not to like that.

7 and 7 - Saturday Night Fever
It might not be the 70s anymore, so a 7 and 7 doesn't quite have the same significance, but it's still a great go-to when you want liquor but not straight up but not a cocktail but not another Jack and Coke. Good enough for Travolta, good enough for us.

Sweet Vermouth on the Rocks with a Twist - Groundhog Day
If we had to live the same day over and over again, we probably would order a different drink every time. Then again, you do what you gotta do to get the girl, amirite? And maybe that's what it takes; a sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist and a twist and a twist.

Champagne Cocktail - Casablanca
Given that the film centers around a bar, there's a lot of drinks in Casablanca: brandy, gin (joints), French 57s. There's even a cocktail named for the film. But our personal fav (if merely for sentimental reasons) is the drink Bogart makes for Bergman as he says the famous line "Here's lookin' at you, kid": a champagne cocktail.

Manhattan - Some Like It Hot
The Manhattan is a classic cocktail, and if you're aiming to be a man/woman of the world, you should probably order one at some point. Or make one. Hey Marilyn Monroe can in a hot water bottle of a moving train. What's your excuse?

White Russian - The Big Lebowski
Over the course of a movie that's 117 minutes long, The Dude drinks nine White Russians. If we did that, we'd die. Maybe a Big Lebowski drinking game isn't the best idea.

There are thousands of cocktails out there, but only a few that everyone knows about (which is how to easily spot newly 21-year-olds in a bar). The Cosmo is one of them, made popular to the point of icon by Sex and the City.

There are twenty-two James Bond movies currently, with a twenty-third in production. All of them have two lines in common that anyone in the English-speaking world (and probably outside of it) instantly recognizes: "Bond. James Bond." and "Martini. Shaken, not stirred."
