15 Best Disney Channel Original Movies

#15 High School Musical

The one makes the list as a sheer token of its success. But given the lack of nostalgia for those of us who were tweens in the 90s, it's at #15. We'll give it to Disney Channel though. By 2006, they really knew how to pick future stars.

15: High School Musical
The one makes the list as a sheer token of its success. But given the lack of nostalgia for those of us who were tweens in the 90s, it's at #15. We'll give it to Disney Channel though. By 2006, they really knew how to pick future stars.
14: Escape to Witch Mountain
Just before Disney created the "Original Movie" label in 1995, they released this remake of a 70's flick. Maybe their success inspired Hollywood to produce another remake over ten years later starring The Rock. Also, if you're a Mad Men fan, this one stars a teenage Peggy Olson.
13: Stepsister from Planet Weird
At one point in our lives, all of us have had the sneaking suspicion our siblings were from outer space. So as a kid, it was pretty refreshing to watch a movie where it was actually true.
12: My Date with the President's Daughter
Despite not actually sporting the "Original Movie" label, this one was on constantly in the Original Movie heyday. Plus it starred Eric, the older brother from Boy Meets World, and even to this day, we can't get the theme song out of our heads.
11: The Paper Brigade
Another classic that was released before the "Original Movie" tag, but still inspired kids everywhere to wage war against bullies while delivering their neighborhood the news.
10: Under Wraps
The second official "Original Movie" that made every kid want to stumble upon a duck-footed mummy named Harold.
9: Halloweentown
Debbie Reynolds was nominated for an Academy Award in 1964 and starred in Halloweentown in 1998. Apparently it was Disney Channel Oscar-worthy considering they made a slew of sequels long after most of us stopped watching kids TV.
8: Zenon: the Zequel
Everybody dug the space slang and flashy spandex skirt-suits so much, Disney Channel cranked out a zequel in no time.
7: Wish Upon a Star
This movie gave teenage girls a perspective on what it was like to telepathically switch bodies with their sister. It also turned 10-year-old boys into prophets when they predicted Katherine Heigl's future soar into super babedom.
6: Smart House
Who wouldn't want to trade their cookie-cutter suburban shack for a suped-up robot mansion? Even if it did eventually try to kill you...
5: The Thirteenth Year
Though thoroughly entertaining, this film did cause panic among adopted children everywhere when they suspected they would turn into a merperson on their thirteenth birthday. Plus, little Kristen Stewart plays the merboy's baby sister. Maybe this role inspired her to chase after that Twilight gig.
4: Johnny Tsunami
Another one of Disney's takes on Outsiders-esque class rivalry. The poor greaser snowboarders verus the rich snob skiers. Who will win? Probably the cute Hawaiian kid with the last name "Tsunami."
3: The Luck of the Irish
The only way Disney Channel could one-up morphing into a merman, was turning a high schooler into a Leprechaun halfway through basketball season. Apparently Leprechauns in those days still fell victim to the bowl-cut hair dye trend.
2: Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century
The movie that made every kid want to live in a space station, speak like a stellar slang princess, and wish Protozoa could sing "Supernova Girl" to him or her in real life.
1: Brink!
Finally, the movie that made all of us want to destroy Team X-Blades and sport Pup-n-Sudz T-Shirts. Despite the fact that Andy "Brink" Brinker might have been a secret stoner, he taught us all never to sell out, throw milkshakes in people's faces when necessary, and be the utmost of soul skaters. Extra points for being one of the very few things that makes rollerblading actually look cool. Plus, you can still catch this one on On-Demand from time to time. Win.
