15: Harry's Birthday Cake
Alright, alright, we know. It's not spectacular, but we couldn't resist! Call it sentiment. In all honesty, though, this is a great idea for the Harry Potter fan in your life (or yourself) if you're not too great at baking (like us.)
14: Hogwarts Crest
That right there is a pretty accurate representation of the Hogwarts school crest. Perfect for a new wizard-in-training.
13: Spell Book
We don't even want to think about how long it must have taken to copy that entire page out of Moste Potente Potions. You're one lucky girl, Georgia!
12: Owls and Dobby and Snakes! Oh my!
We just love how this cake is covered with all things Harry Potter. Hey if you don't want to stick with one idea, throw them all on!
11: Hedwig
A book-shaped cake we understand, but owl-shaped? No idea how to do that.
10: Reading List
There's quite a few HP cakes with a book, and a few with a couple of books, but seven? All seven Harry Potter books? How the heck does that thing not fall over?! (Magic. The answer's magic.)
9: Odds and Ends
We're hoping Bob and Jill are twins. Or maybe friends with the same birthday? Otherwise, wow, Mom and Dad. Party foul.
8: Times Two
The idea with Harry Potter cakes seems to be mainly either book cake or castle cake. But when you're a professional baker and it's the birthday of your son Ransom (Ransom?), go big or...er, and...go home.
7: The Burrow
We're impressed by the gravity defying construction of the Weasley's Burrow, but even more impressed with this edible version. Sure, it's made from gingerbread, which is not quite cake, but we're counting it because it's awesome.
6: Delicious Wisdom
We're betting Smyth is the happiest kid in the world, and not just this year; the website of DC Sweet Cakes, the company that crafted this beauty, shows a batman themed cake reading "Happy 7th Birthday, Smyth" posted a year after this one. Setting the bar pretty high there, eh Mom and Dad?
5: Three Tiered Castles
Oh, you wanted a three-tiered chocolate cake? Sorry, we totally heard three-tiered Harry Potter-themed artful masterpiece made in Russia. Our bad.
4: Cover Art
We're totally blown away by the artwork on these. If you've ever had your senior photo blown up and put on cake for your awkward graduation party by your parents, you'll know that it's possible to screenprint cakes. (If you haven't...well, now you know that you can). But these are hand-painted. Hand-painted!
3: Flourish & Blotts & then some
Books and a scarf and a snitch and a wand and glasses and potions and some wizarding money. And of course, house sparkler candles. The bakery artist who made this masterpiece did so for her cousin's 8th birthday. Best cousin ever!
2: Hogwarts Grounds
Yes, it is a cake. We're pretty sure the trees are edible too. What's really impressive is the sheer scope of this culinary creation. We've seen castle cakes, but not castle and cliffs and forest and lake cakes.
1: Spoiler Alert
Hogwarts burns down. It's heartbreaking. This cake, however, is not. This castle of edible wonderment was created by Duff Goldman of the Food Network show Ace of Cakes for the NYC premiere of the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
