This is probably our favorite interactive doodle, appearing Feb 8, 2011. The lever at the right allowed the user to descend into the watery depths, watching through the simulated submarine window of the Google logo.

Mural Artist Diego Rivera is often remembered for his politics and relationship with Frida Kahlo. This doodle appeared Dec 8, 2011 and features the public nature of his painted murals.
11: Freddie Mercury's 65th Birthday
This 90 second animated music video took about 4 months for the design team to complete. It appeared globally on September 5, 2011 and in the US on the 6th because of the Labor Day holiday.
10: Anniversary of the Ice Cream Sundae
Not all Google doodles commemorate great artists and thinkers. This retro 50's design appeared Apr 3, 2011 to celebrate the 119th anniversary of the first documented ice cream sundae.
9: Robert Bunsen's 200th Birthday
This interactive doodle appeared March 31, 2011. On many web browsers you could increase or decrease the volume of liquid or strength of the flame in the chemistry lab doodle.
8: First Day of Spring 2009
This doodle appeared March 20, 2009 to celebrate the arrival of Spring. It was designed by Eric Carle, author of the children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
7: John Lennon's 70th Birthday
This was a music video set to "Imagine" that featured artwork by Lennon. It was Googles first animated video doodle. It appeared on Oct 8, 2010
6: Robert Louis Stevenson's 160th Birthday
This doodle appeared Nov 13, 2010. This is the only professionally designed pirate themed doodle to appear so far, although the 2012 Doodle for Google submission winner was a kid's pirate drawing.
5: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 170th Birthday
This doodle appeared May 7, 2010. It was the first produced by people posing for a photographer, in this case dancers from the San Francisco Ballet.
4: 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street - Cookie Monster
This doodle appeared November 5, 2009, with a full Sesame Street cast appearing a few days later. There has also been an interactive doodle for Jim Henson's Birthday.
3: 30th Anniversary of Pac-Man
Interactive Google doodles are always office productivity killers. This playable Pac-Man game appeared May 21, 2010. You could even have a second person join you as Ms. Pac-Man.

Wes Craven helped design this creepy doodle for Halloween 2008. There are many other other great Halloween doodles, including a five-panel Scooby Doo cartoon in 2010.
