Wayne is know for comitting the Atlanta Child Murders between 1979 and '81. During that period, he killed at 29 children. After his arrest, Wayne contended his was framed by the Ku Klux Klan. The jury didn't believe him, convicted him and sentenced him to two consecutive life sentences.

Dean Corll
Known as the "Candy Man" and "Pied Piper," Dean raped, tortured and murdered at least 28 young men in Houston between 1970 and '73. Dean's accomplice killed him after a quarrel. Dean paid his accomplice $200 to procure each of his victims.

John Wayne Gacy
John Wayne killed at least 33 boys and young men between 1972 to '78. Twenty-six of his victims were buried in the crawl space under his home. As "Pogo the Clown," Gacy became famous in his community for his charitable work. His first job was as a mortuary attendant. The mortuary allowed him to live in the embalming room and Gacy has admitted this is where he began experiencing a deep romantic attraction to dead young men. After several decades of dealing out death to young men, Gacy was executed May 9, 1994. Diagnosed as a psychopath, he showed no remorse for all of his crimes and his last words were, "Kiss my ass."

Gary Ridgeway
Known as the Green River Killer, Gary confessed to 96 murders during the 1980s and '90s. His victims, mostly prostitutes, were strangled with his bare hands and their bodies hidden in the forests around Washington State. He would return time and again to their bodies for his perverted purposes. He was convicted of the murders but not given the death sentence. He's currently serving his of life imprisonment in Walla Walla.

Henry Lee Lucas
It isn't clear, but Henry Lee killed somewhere between 350 to 600 people between the time he was born in 1936 and his death in 2001. Henry Lee got off to a quick start in the murder racket when, at 24-years-old, he killed his mother. After his murder conviction, he was sentenced to death, but Governor George Bush commuted the sentence to life imprisonment.

Harold Shipman
Harold might hold the world's record for serial killing. An English doctor in the last half of the 20thC, Shipman practiced in and around Yorkshire. He specialized in killing elderly women with lethal injections of diamorphine. His wife, Primrose, stood by her husband until the very end which came in 2004 when he hung himself in his prision cell.

Moses Sithole
South Africa's entry on the serial killer hit parade claims to have killed at least 38 people. During an incarceration early in his life, he was constantly raped by fellow inmates and this is where he probably contracted AIDs. When he was released from prison, he began his killing spree. He is still alive, serving a 2,410 year sentence in Pretoria's Central Prison.

Gerald Stano
Stano confessed to killing 41 women before his spree came to an end. Born to an uncaring mother, authorities removed him from her when he was six months old and discovered to be living off his own waste. He was, eventually adopted and was a bed wetter until he was 10-years-old. He graduated high school when he was 21. He died in prison in 1998 where he was Jeffrey Dahmer's cellmate.

Andrei Chikatilo
Between 1978 and 1990, this citizen of the Ukraine killed at least 52 women and children. He was known as The Butcher of Rostov, The Red Ripper and The Rostov Ripper. According to his confession to the KGB, Andrei drank the blood of his victims. After being convicted of his crimes, the KGB executed him with a single bullet fired into his head, behind the right ear.

Bruno Ludke
You know it's pretty bad if the Nazi's decide you're a serial killer and that's exactly what happened with Bruno. When he was arrested in 1943 he was charged with killing at least 52 people during a 15 year period. The Nazis decided to show him mercy, declared him insane and put him in a hospital where, for a year, he was the subject of medical experiments before finally dieing by lethal injection.

Ed Gein
Ed had two bad habits: Murder and Grave Robbing. No one is really sure how many he killed. Regarding his grave robbing hobby, Ed used what he dug up to make trophies and keepsakes including a rocking chair made of bones. Ed is probably best known as the inspiration for Norman Bates from Psycho, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Jame Gumb from The Silence of the Lambs.

Ted Bundy
During the 1970s, Ted Bundy killed at least 30 women and then performed sex acts with their dead bodies. He decapitated at least 12 of his victims and kept their heads in his appartment as souvenirs. Bundy was executed in 1989. His own attorney described him this way: "the very definition of heartless evil."

David Berkowitz
Better know as the Son of Sam, Berkowitz terrified NYC in 1976 and 1977. He killed at least six people and his neighbor's dog. Berkowitz didn't work alone as he claimed Satan spoke to him directly and gave him instructions on what to do next. He is still serving his sentence in prison where he has converted from Satanism to Christianity after reading Psalm 36:4: This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.

Jeffrey Dahmer
Dahmer doesn't hold a record for number of murders but he's earned his place on the list for the violence and perversity of his killings. Dahmer killed at least 17 men and boys before he was finally caught. He killed his victims by beating them and then proceeded to have his way with them sexually. He was also a cannibal. Dahmer finally met his end while in prison where he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate in in 1994.

Belle Sorenson Gunness
Belle, in some languages, means pretty. In this case, that isn't true at all. Belle Sorenson Gunness was a particularly strong and cruel woman responsible for more than 40 deaths. Born in Norway in 1859, she specialized in killing men and children by slowly dismembering them. Known as the Black Widow of Indiana, it's suspected she died in a house fire but the evidence was inconclusive.
