How to Grow Out Your Hair

#15 Washing Your Hair

Some hairdressers have always believed that you should only wash your hair every 2-3 days maximum in order to prevent your hair drying out if it isn't particularly oily. You should also avoid using large quantities of product in your hair, and if possible, try and use a shampoo that is sulphate-free in order to keep those tresses healthy and growing at a speedy rate.

15: Washing Your Hair
Some hairdressers have always believed that you should only wash your hair every 2-3 days maximum in order to prevent your hair drying out if it isn't particularly oily. You should also avoid using large quantities of product in your hair, and if possible, try and use a shampoo that is sulphate-free in order to keep those tresses healthy and growing at a speedy rate.
14: Stress Less
Stress isn't just bad for your overall health on a day-to-day basis, but it also has a dramatically detrimental effect on the health and speed of growth of your hair.
13: Avoid Tight Hairstyles
Never wear a hairstyle that puts unnecessary stress on the roots, such as tight ponytails or braids. Instead, try and wear your hair in looser, more relaxed hairstyles, and a conditioning spray may be useful if you have to wear your hair tied back regularly.
12: Drink Plenty of Water
While we all know that drinking a healthy amount of water every day improves your overall health, what you may not have known is that it also aids in speedy and healthy growth of your hair.
11: Rinse with Cold Water
After washing your hair, it is best to rinse it in cold water, a proven method to keep it shiny and looking its best as it grows out.
10: Wet Hair
When your hair is wet you must only use a wide-toothed comb to untangle it, never a hair brush! Hair brushes only work best when your hair is dry, and therefore prevents split ends and damage.
9: Hair Accessories
Always be careful of what hair accessories you use. Some clips or hair bands containing materials such as Velcro may pull on your hair and damage it, so it is best to avoid these.
8: Avoid Pool Chemicals
Another thing that can damage your hair and ultimately prevent it from growing out at the rate and speed you would like it to, is the chlorine or salt water contained in swimming pools. After swimming you should rinse your hair immediately, or even wear a swimmer's cap for protection.
7: Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Harsh chemicals such as peroxide, ammonia and generally any contained in coloring agents will dry out and damage your hair severely when used on a regular basis. You can avoid these altogether, or if you must color your hair, there are ammonia-free or more natural options available.
6: Avoid Heated Appliances
Heated hair appliances such as the blow dryer or hair straightener can dry out hair and cause breakage. When drying your hair, it's best to partially dry it with the blow dryer or use a cooler temperature setting in order to avoid any damage.
5: Regular Trims
When you begin to notice dead ends or breakages then you know it's time to head to your hairdresser and ask for a trim, or "dusting", off the ends of your hair to keep it healthy.
4: Nutrition
By eating well, this will aid your hair's natural growth. Vitamins including A, B, C and E, as well as minerals such as iron and zinc have all been proven to benefit your hair.
3: Exercise
Regular exercise is not only a great way to keep our bodies healthy, but it also improves circulation to the hair follicles, therefore helping hair to grow faster.
2: Brush your Hair
To help speed up your hair's growth, you should make sure you are brushing it daily from roots through to the ends. A natural boar bristle brush will help reduce breakage.
1: Be Patient
We know what they say, patience is a virtue, and when it comes to growing out your hair, this is indeed the case. By following all of these tips to keep your hair healthy and speed up the growing process, then you can sit back, relax, and watch your tresses grow.
