15: Avoid Mascara on Lower Lashes
If you have small eyes and would like to make them pop, makeup artists recommend avoiding using mascara on the lower lashes. Instead, only use eyeliner along the bottom lashes, and leave the mascara coating for your upper eyelashes to make your eyes appear larger.
14: Fake it
If false lashes seem a little too over-the-top or just simply aren’t your thing, then you may want to try individual lashes to help create extra volume and sultriness. These are available at most department stores, and they do look quite natural.
13: Embrace Eyelash Curlers
If your eyelashes aren’t naturally curly, you can use an eyelash curler. A good tip is to do this before applying mascara, as once you have curled your lashes, a few coats of mascara should keep the style in place.
12: White Eye Shadow Trick
Make your eyes appear brighter by adding a small dab of white eye shadow on the inner corner of your eye, closest to your nose. Celebrities and makeup artists have been using this trick for years!
11: Banish Darkness
Are unsightly dark shadows underneath your eyes making you appear tired and worn out? Using a highlighter underneath your eyes will vanish dark circles, allowing your eyes to appear more wide-awake and fresh.
10: Know Your Color Wheel
Choose eye shadows that are on the opposite side of the color wheel. For example, brown eyes pop with purple or even turquoise hues, and blue eyes look great against gold or brown makeup. Green eyes look fantastic with rose and pink tones.
9: Mascara Motion
When applying mascara, rather than simply coating your lashes in an upward motion, begin at the roots of the lashes and gently wiggle the brush from side to side as you coat the entire length of your lashes. This motion will allow more mascara to coat your lashes, creating sultry eyes.
8: Primer
Tired of your eye makeup wearing off after a few hours, only to make your eyes appear dull or too basic? Applying primer to your eyelids in the form of a neutral powder will create a base for your makeup and allow it to last all day long!
7: The Right Mascara
There are various mascaras on the market, and the trick is finding the right one for your eyelashes to make your eyes really pop! A thickening mascara will have tightly packed bristles, adding density to your lashes. Lengthening mascaras have a brush that is not as tightly packed, and they create a more natural look. Waterproof mascaras are handy for when you go swimming, in order to keep your eyes looking awesome.
6: Three Quarter Rule
When applying eyeliner, it is best not to apply it all the way around your eyes, as this will make them appear closed off, or smaller. Leave the eyes looking fresh and open by leaving the inner corner of the eye (near the tear duct) without liner.
5: Shimmery Eye Shadow
You can make your eyes appear larger by applying a shimmery and light eye shadow on your eyelid. celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose says this allows more light to reflect from your eye area, therefore making them appear bigger and brighter.
4: Add Wings
Creating a wing tip with your eyeliner will also open up your eyes and make them pop. Draw the wing tip at a slightly upward angle, towards your eyebrows, and have a cotton swab with makeup remover close by to neaten any accidental smudges.
3: It's All in the Eyebrows
A perfectly groomed and shaped eyebrow will also do amazing things to the appearance of your eyes, complimenting their natural shape and making them stand out more. It is best to visit a beauty expert and have them shape your eyebrows first, and then you can work to maintain this shape yourself.
2: Contour
Contouring in the crease of your eyelid will also make your eyes appear larger and more noticeable. Use a deep color in the crease and blend it just slightly above the crease line to accentuate your eyes.
1: Keep the Rest Neutral
By focusing your makeup on your eyes and keeping the rest of your face neutral, this will allow your eyes to become the focus of your face and to stand out the most.
